Default Egr partial blocking plate.

Has anyone successfully fitted a partial blocking plate (hole driiled in it) in the EGR system of a VM, MY14 on, diesel such that it did not need the ECU reprogrammed. Just interested in its effectiveness and hopefully that it will stop the clogging of the inlet manifold and not trigger any fault codes. I have had a Provent catch can on it since 40000 and it has done 81000 now, but I am worried about how much clogging of the swirl valves and inlet manifold will still occur if the EGR is not modified in some way.

With the catch can fitted for such a distance you should find that the airintake before the turbo is pretty clear of oil compared to when you first fitted it and your manifolds are just sooty as you have taken most of the greasy air away, I just did an oil change on mine and stuck a big cotton bud down the plumbing and it came away with just a smear not the soaked in oil that it had when I first first did it......... other vehicles I just vented my catch can to outside and it was all dry as chips.......

EGR blocking plates I have always thought of a gimmicky thing, they are hit and miss, throw codes if you don't have the hole big enough or just let heaps of soot thru if too big, not to mention a hell of a lot of effort to get at............. if not made of the right stuff they will rot away.
Catch can does a fine job as the oily air is always flowing while the EGR is only open for a short time, far better for a delete.

Thanks Lewy2001, it is a basically simple job to do, but I was wondering what had to be done then with the ECU program, eg a reflash, and roughly what cost is involved there?

I have a reflash that disables the EGR without that you will throw codes. I was thinking if you just blocked the inlet manifold end and left the other open and diverted the gases back to exhaust it may not throw codes.
