Default Rear Suspension - towing

We have a KK petrol and are using it to tow our float (for alpacas). The float is approx. 850kg empty and probably around 1200kgs when loaded.

The drawbar weight is set up to be approx. 10% for trailer weight.

I have noticed the vehicle bounces somewhat when towing. The rear suspension seems quite soft (for a 4wd).

Rear shockies or springs?

Not interested in lifting and would like the ride height to remain as standard.

Check out my Ride(s)

If you want the ride without the trailer to stay as is maybe consider the lightest weight distribution hitch. Without mine the vehicle wallows and all bumps are magnified. With the hitch its smooth driving.

Actually I think the ride without the trailer is also too soft.

Default Soft Ride

The stock suspension is pretty soft and not really up to loading. I have HD springs as part of the lift and its drives much better.

When we net camping the rear would almost be on the bump stops with the rear and roof rack full. so I gave up flex but am really pleased with the harder springs.

Air bags might be an option or new springs.

I've heard good things about the Polyair Kit but it's an expensive option, there is a kit for the ZJ but have no idea about the KK

It's just a bag in your stock springs that you fill with air (adjustable suspension would complement such a setup) so you don't get a hard tail when you don't need it

Thanks for the replies.

Any idea of the cost of simply a heavier set of springs? Obviously would probably have to think of new shocks as well. Vehicle has done 60k.

As already mentioned the standard KK suspension is prolly a bit on the soft side, or rather maybe its an odd spring rating.

I've fitted Poly Airbags to plenty of Land Rover models for customers over the years, they are good and can be adjusted for unbalanced loads etc.

**PIMPING WARNING**
While u have said u dont want a lift kit, any of the lifts I've done on the KK using the CRDSTU system, really has transformed the ride and handling of the vehicle.

Regards
Daz
