Default Interior LED Lighting

One of the latest FuglyFabs is my interior lights.

I know, hardly a real MODIFICATION, but USEFUL, especially if you have a bikini.

The standard in-cab lights are behind my head in the TJ, so they cast shadows exactly where I want the most of the time. Also, with the bikini and windjammer on, they're outside!! Not very helpful.

Solution - replace with in-cab white LEDs.

Bought 20 white LEDs off ebay already wired up with resistors and 15cm lead wires, for about $10 the lot. Took a length of wire from the existing festoon globe holder, out under the speaker pod then UNDER the zip-on cover for the roll bar (beside/above your head when you’re in the seat). Took the original globes out and replaced with 1 inch bits of clear plastic water tube – cos it’s soft and pliable, and it fits in the spot the globe came from, and sandwiches my new wires in place securely against the metal – no soldering, no worries.

I then tapped the power out of these lead wires and added the LEDs. With the wire on top of the bar, rather than beside, and little slices in the bar cover ABOVE the zipper, the LEDs come out at an angle, pointing downwards already, and as flush as possible with the bar. Added 3 more inside each original light fitting so I have light in the rear. Will add 3 more in the center cross-bar pointing backwards too, to add more light to the rear, but for now it’s plenty. Leave your interior lights on for a week, your battery will be fine cos the LEDs use almost no power.

Total cost - $12.

Is it christmas time already?

Seriously though - can't go wrong with LED's... I have a 21 LED strip light (flexible in a tube about as round as a garden hose) in my camper trailer, and it's sensational... $30 from Jaycar or thereabouts...

I was thinking this was one of the LESS fugly things I'd done to the Heep. It ended up even better than I expected - it cost less than a couple of LED festoons, and works better.
