Default soo.. tow hooks into an ARB bar

While removing my bar to fit my winch (see accompanying thread on the marathon that has been) I thought Id adapt the previous owners idea for fitting hooks to make it a little more sturdy.

Previous owners plate:

With an addittion:

Now i feel a little better about recovering off them:

The plates bolt back through the original bracket mounting holes, also into the top of the bar/through the hooks. (I'll post a decent shot of the top tomorrow) I wasnt too comfortable about pulling off them as they were, even with the use of a bridle, as there was too much pull from what i percieved as being a mildly reinforced horizontal plane. Now, with them gussetted, I dont see too much of an issue as the load now passes through to a verticle member that ties back into the vehicle. To pull out they'd need to rip the entire bar out of the chassis, which although Im sure it is possible, I cant see it happening.

Mark

(note to self: put some washers in there tomorrow too)

From that pic Id have to agree, original set-up not the best, wouldnt have wanted to do a heavy recovery of it.
Looks like youve beefed it up nicely.

Hey turbomart.... I guess ill find out next weekend... finally going to get this thing muddy!

(Ive had her on the sand and shes a heap more sluggish compared to the TJ was on 33's and 3.07's. Mate ZJ on 31's was a good truck length ahead on the sand dune climbs.... 4.10's are on the way as soon as I find a retailer with a decent price AND decent shipping)
