Default Radio Antenna

Hey guys i snaped my radio antenna the other day on my garage door and was wondering the best way to go about fixing it.
I have a 96 xj so the antenna is electric wich anoys the crap out of me.
Is it possible to just install a flexy antenna or do i need another one of the same that i broke, also how hard is to fix/replace and what is my best option?

Thanks jeepers

You'll need to remove your drivers side front inner guard (plastic) to get at the automated antenna system, what you replace it with is up to you and only limited by your imagination and DIY ability... personally I prefer manually extended/telescoped antennas

Getting into the wheel arch is easy ...

Wait till you chase the wiring & connectors behind the kick panel before swearing and cursing ..

The new aerial will come with a cable attached, just cut it off about 200mm long and just join it to the existing cable. Strip the plastic back and make a tail out of the outer shield then join the two cables together, obviously shield to shield. Soldering is good but you can use connectors. If you're a perfectionist you can buy coax connectors but you wont notice any difference in performance. I've done this many a time including CCTV coax with no ill effects.

I might give that a go myself Billnick. Funny thing is I thought mine did not have an electric ariel untill I removed the inner guard one day. . I guess you splice into the existing power wires also?

Regards A
