I can't help you with diesel but for petrol, try and get as late as possible.
Petrol engines changed from the 3.8 to the 3.6 in 2012. There has been some documented cases of issues with the early 3.6 motors but they have been long sorted out.
The 3.8 was a very good reliable motor but at 146kW, it's a bit of a slug especially when towing. It also loved a drink so it's not as efficient as the 3.6.
The interiors changed from 2011. Before that it was a bit spartan with the new interior being much more refined.
As for servicing costs, it's really no different to any other car out there. The trouble is, Jeep dealers aren't known for their knowledge and customer service so if possible, you are better off taking it to a specialist Jeep mechanic for servicing.
With standard suspension they drive quite well, however if it has the OEM 2" lift, they do tend to have a lot of body roll. You are best off running an aftermarket lift.
If you do buy one be prepared to be an outcast to the rest of the 4wding community, right up to when they need you to pull them out of the sand or mud.
