Default Stock tweeter mod

I cannot take any credit for this, but having just completed it and tested it, have to say that it was worth it.

I came across this cheap mod on another forum from the states.

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f274/st...ap-662985.html

Just went to JayCar and bought 2 non-polar 10.0uf 100v capacitors (cylindrical green ones) and removed stock cap. and soldered this on.

Result: clearer sound, better highs.
cost: $5

BIG WARNING HERE.......

Should be uF not uH...... placing an inductor ( measured in micro Henries ) instead of a capacitor ( measured in micro Farads ) across the tweeter will likely cause damage.

One of the examples where WWW posts can cost you lots of $$ in F ups....

Thanks for that notice, I updated it. It should have been 2 non-polar 10.0uf 100v capacitors as that is what I used.

Yep, that one is here too, but buried somewhere in the "What have you done to your JK this week" thread. Well worth it, I've done it too.

If you had used an inductor, it probably wouldn't damage the tweeter, but it would certainly take some of the power from it & it would definitely sound worse! (Since a coil in parallel with the tweeter, which is also a coil, would work as a short across it). And just might burn out & start a fire if there was enough power going through it. That would indeed damage the tweeter, and cost you $$$! Or it could just act as a short on the amp output & blow out that channel.

I've had the tweeter mod in mine for some time (also buried in WHYDTYJK thread) and was most happy with the results. Why the stock tweeter doesn't have this capacitor boggles the mind, perhaps the capacitors they use are $0.0005 cheaper?
I also put in Infinity speakers in the soundbar and a Pioneer shallow sub (all 2ohms which is somewhat rare in car audio). Overall sound has been much improved while keeping everything stock in appearance

Did you replace the stock amp or deck? I've got the infinity speakers and amp but looking for a way to unlock the rear speakers.

I still have the stock amp and deck. I'm not sure how well the rear soundbar would perform with more power, remember we're dealing with a hollow piece of plastic here so every chance it will sound crap/boomy and rattle with volume up.
