I recently pulled my footwell carpets up and after a decade of jeeping most of the paint had worn worn off and the galvanised metal was showing through. I just cleaned it up and put a few coats of rust kill over it to help protect it from corrosion. I also painted the rear area under the rear seat.

think im going to go with your idea that seems pretty good and it looks good too.
Ive removed all the carpet in the jeep so there nothing left i removed the bungs we have had some really heavy rain where i live recently even had to make a mad dash to one of our properties round the corner coz the garage was full when we had hail! i almost went out n led on the bonnet to save it from the hail lol.
Its not a major leak just when it is heavy rain.
So rust kill here we come!
