Default Keeping DPF/manifold troubles at bay

Hi All,

What do you all do to keep any potential DPF troubles and the manifold getting gunked up with carbon, etc at bay? Is driving the dar on the highway once a week enough? I realise short trips are the enemy.

Do you use any fuel additives (such as Liqui Moly) or similar? Is that worthwhile?

On the Pajero there is an electronic mod called the SPV which keeps the EGR valve 100% open. Many also use a s/s blank. Any mods for these new Jeeps?

Is anyone out there fitting a Provent Catch Can to their Jeeps? There isn't much room under the bonnet, so if so, whereabouts?

Thanks for the tips,
Sally

Good question, the regen kicks in every ~800kms or so for me (I do lots of short trips), so I make sure I take it on the highway when the dpf is getting towards 70% full, or towards the end of a tank of diesel.

But yeah, I'm not sure if that is enough to keep carbon deposits under control.....

I thought someone had fit a catch can to their WK2 (lots have done it for the WH), but I can't find the thread on it now.

Hi Sally,

Sold my WH early this year. It had over 200K on it and the oil was so clean it used to amaze my mechanic.
He put it down to the GDE tune with EGR delete, the Provent 200 & the 2 stroke oil added to my fuel.

Now have a 2014 WK2. So far, I have fitted a Provent 200 (see pics below) and are having a ECU tune with EGR delete done next week.
Haven't added the 2 stroke oil to the fuel as yet as I am waiting to see how the Provent.......and the EGR delete goes.

Below is a pic of the Provent mounted beside the air cleaner box......

Below is a picture showing the bottom of the clear tube attached to the underneath of the Provent. I have a ball valve tap below the Provent that you can reach with your hand to let the oil out into a container.......

Cheers, Craig

How do you know when the regen kicks in? I've done 94000km in mine and never had anything let me know it's regenerating.
Also cherokee30d if you do start adding the 2 stroke can you post how it goes? I've been reading up on it a lot lately and am very tempted to give it a go but am still a bit hesitant.

Hi Sally
My WK JGC is a 2011 build and its now done 60,000km about 95% of this is city driving. I don't do anything special with the DPF it simply looks after its self. We can tell when its on because you can hear the thermo fans running, some times we have arrived home with it running so I just turn the engine off no problems.
I cant help with the EGR but I think the provent catch can is a good idea but have not installed one.

Yeah, will do spoondog.
If / when you start adding the 2 stroke, make sure that it is TC-W3. My preference was Penrite. A 20Lt drum costs around $120.00 and lasts a full year. My mix ratio was 300ml per tank. I would miss every 4 - 5 tanks.
The first thing I noticed when I starting adding it to the WH is that the engine was quieter. It became louder after the GDE tune, and the 2 stroke quietened it.
My father in law who is a retired diesel engineer / mechanic used to use it in stationary diesel engines to help them last longer and run quieter.

Cheers, Craig

On the MY14 with latest updates, once you go over 70% full you get a message on the EVIC to 'keep driving - regen in process'.

I use an OBD2 adapter with the torque app on android to read the dpf full value. I don't think it works on pre-MY14 models unfortunately (but could be wrong). But it should be able to at least read the Cat1 sensor temp, and when it hits 600C, a regen is going.

I really wish they would just put DPF % full and DPF regen in process in one of the EVIC screens.
