Default 2009 KK Transmission Dipstick

Hello, I am having my transmission serviced tomorrow as it has done 75000km and no service history available.
I have a spare trans dip stick for my XJ,would this work for checking the level after the service. This way I could make an indicator mark on when the trans has been freshly serviced and topped up,and have reference point for future servicing myself.
Or would I be better off going for the one I have found below?

Cheers, Clarke

Welcome Clarke, that part might be ok although I've read from the Lost Jeeps forum that this is the OEM Mopar part# 53013592AC

Default 2009 KK Transmission Dipstick

No worries, I only came across it a few days ago as I was thinking I'd like one of these...

http://www.yourcovers.com/transpan_11044.php

I'm at 140k so far and always dealer serviced but think my tranny isn't 100% healthy. Not keen to pay premium prices again for apprentice level service given it's not running perfectly. So I'm considering spending similar $$ importing all the enhancement/fix/service goodies from the US and getting an independent tranny shop to do the service. At least then I'll get some constructive feedback on its condition as opposed to the useless blank response from the dealer.

Just a bit of background on this subject: There are allot of vehicles running the 42RLE transmission and it isn't exactly considered a great design although it does apparently have some high tech in it.

There are fix kits to improve operation and reliability of these units. Often the problems experienced are due to the lack of fluid quantity they hold and this results in overheating, many KJ owners have fitted tranny coolers to fix this. The alloy pan referred to earlier also adds more fluid volume and cooling.

Here's some light reading on the subject:

Service kits:

Hope this helps lead others in the right direction, just Googling 42RLE reveals heaps of info. Cheers.

Still waiting for the seller to get back to me with a confirmation they post to Australia.
Had Trans serviced today at a local trans specialist,$290. Never paid for a trans service before. Do it myself next time, just had to have it done now and I don't have time this week to do it before I hook up camper and head off into the sunset.
Done 74000 km and no record of trans being serviced.
