Default Work around Bundaberg/ Capricorn coast QLD

My wife and I are moving up near Bundaberg/ Capricorn coast area soon. She's working and i'm leaving the life of w@nky IT and banking to do something else!

Does anyone know much about the kind of work up around that area?

I know there's the sugar cane industry and a hospital but just looking for some other career ideas.

My background is computer science and i've been a support person/ developer/ project manager for about 12 years but i've really had a bar of computers and software and anyone involved in the finance industry.

I'm pretty keen to start something mechanical/ technical and don't mind getting grubby or studying, apprenticeships even an option I'm just not sure what kinds of other jobs and industry is up there.

Hoping for some local insight!

apply at ergon energy or something like that, design technician or feild technician.

if you were coming up to rockhampton way you could apply at hastings deering or somewhere like that.

get on jobsearch.gov and see what you can find.

apprenticeships in CQ are endless, iv just been applying to about 7 for electrical instrumentaion and electrical fitter, HEAPSSSSSSSS to choose from, if it is trade based your after think of the one you would be best suited to/do well at and get in contact with the big industries and let them know of your background and your wishes for the future

hi josh, where did you find apprenticeships listed?

i've been looking at jobsearch.gov.au and i'm also making an appointment to talk to the qld skills search people too.

any other sites of places worth a look?

stroked,
been lookin at Ergon too but i dont fancy high-voltage line installation stuff, bit risky for one so clumsy.

I know you say you had a gutful of computers, but if you are any good at it there are normally plenty of opportunities for anyone with good skills. I deal with IT companies all the time a little further south of where you are heading and to be brutally honest most of the time I know more then they do about the networking side - seriously (I install SIP trunking and IP networked telephone systems)

If your after a decent apprenticeship look for a well known company or industry. I applied at NRG, RIO TINTO, QAL, port authority, cement Australia etc. Usually on their websites they will have an area associated with their apprentice programs.
