Default WK2 CRD Laredo

Well I took delivery of my GC Laredo CRD on the 20th April and already have 4800kms on it. This car is just superb!!

I was wondering whether anybody out there has considered a turbo timer to ensure that the engine idles for a time after a long trip. The owners manual states that one needs to run the engine on idle for between 3 to 5 minutes after heavy load etc to lubricate the turbo etc. Wondered if anybody out there has any good suggestions on this or whether you have invested in a turbo timer? Where you installed it? How much it costs etc? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Cheers

Luis

Luis I've had them before in other vehicles but in reality they are a novelty as much as anything. Also some WK2 owners mihgt chime in on how successful or easy it is to actually instal one on such a complex vehicle. I've seen plenty of stories about how they can play up with modern vehicles ECU's.

In reality when you have done a long trip and you are heading to home you generally come into town and slow down progressively over several minutes anyway then you get hoem pull up maybe open a gate or the roller door etc before you go to shut down. So a few seconds (30 or so idling) after that is about all you really need. Normal around town driving to get the bread and milk is hardly high load and so hardly needs any cool down and also gentle highway cruising hardly pulls load.

Where I can see it's benefit these days is if you lived in the sticks up the end of a steep road straight into your property and you often towed a big van so you are under sollid load all the way till you stop at home. Or on the beach in soft sand when you are stopping often to look at attractions along the way. Other than that , although cool down of a turbo is important, i think people get carried away with having to idle down for several minutes after what they perceive is a high load situation.

I wouldn't waist my money. A couple of changes to driving habits before turning it off is more than enough to take care of these late model turbos.
I figure if was really that crucial to cool down for more than 30 seconds they be fitted to the vehicle already.
