Default Diesel engine swap

I'm trying to find information on putting a Diesel engine in my TJ.
I can't seem to find information anywhere. Any common engines fit? (mitsubishi, Toyota, etc)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Fit is one thing. Getting it to work is another. The problem is that you have a couple of computers in yours that control all sorts of things. Most modern diesels have an engine management computer & its not compatible. If you went for an old style diesel engine with manual trans, you would need to rewire & get rid of all the electronics.

Okay cheers that's a pretty big help. Surely it would be pretty expensive to rewire everything? I don't really have any idea about electrical stuff.

Can I ask why?

There are some older diesels that would make things easier, ie Nissan Sd33 as fitted to some J10's. They could squeak through emissions etc I guess. Maybe.?
If it's for reasons like fuel economy, you'd need to drive it a long way to overcome the cost of the conversion before you're in front on fuel costs.

RD28T Nissan (GU Patrol) should be a good fit, or the VM2.8 from a KJ if you wanted to keep it in the family. You would need to custom fab mounts and all wiring though.

Cummins 4BT has been done a number of times in the US as they are a dime a dozen over there but they are heavy and relatively low tech.
