Alternate stronger steering box for TJs
I remember reading some years ago that you can replace std steering box on a TJ with one from another model which is stronger and can cope with larger tyres better.
Does anyone know other compatible boxes (XJ have the same box, so probably not that one).

Alternate stronger steering box for TJs
A FSJ steering gear won't gain you much strength over the tj unit, the sector shaft is the same size. You will however gain a little extra assistance as the the piston is a little larger than the tj unit. This is all for pre 2004 tj.

Wooders,
Suburban; thought for a sec that you were talking about the shop Then realised the GMC model...
Noticed the Chevy S10 box is a popular when shopping.
Fil,
so tell me about 04 onwards TJ boxes, something changed?

04 on changed to a Mercedes steering gear which has a different bolt pattern on the chassis. The difference is minor and You can fit the pre 04 Saginaw gear to post 04 chassis by moving one mounting hole. .
