Default Flatland 4x4 DIY tyre carrier WJ/WG

Flatland 4x4 have now released their DIY rear tyre carrier.

I don't mind it at all.

I really like the design except I would mount the spare lower for some rear visibility.
Anyone know what latch they are using on the swing-away?

I agree I am actually liking that. There are a couple of little tweaks I'd do to the lines myself but overall it looks pretty neat. I do agree too that the tyre is way to high. The tyre should be down at the top of the bumper section at least as visibility out the back must be woeful. It wouldn't hurt to move it to the left a bit too.

A pad bolt could be used as a very simple locking mechanism or a car door mechanism hidden behind the bumper wing would be cool. Hard to see what the one in the pic is but it doesn't look like the usual over centre latch. Might be a UK based product. The car is a CRD and the plates look Euro. I'm guessing that "Mark" that helped with the carrier design could be of English origin.

Not bad at all.

I wonder if it could be tweaked to pull the tyre down and to the left enough to allow the glass panel assembly to be opened without having to swing the carrier out, that would be super convenient.

That is what is missing from the design. Otherwise, I'm buying the plans.
