Default legalities on home made rear bars?

Hi all,
I'm keen on taking on the challenge of fabbing my own bars for my wj grand but want to keep it safe and legal. The front doesn't look viable at this stage due to the engineering required so I've been looking at doing a rear bar with tyre carrier. Ive been going through the vsb14 ad vsi8 (Vic) regs, and cant find anything that mentions rear bars.
I'm not planning of integrating the tow hitch and wont be carrying gas on it. Is there anything else I need to know about, eg. Engineering for Airbags or crumple zones before I get to work?

Just do it. Don't have it hanging out past your tyres and don't have sharp objects on it.

One of my mates got pulled up in his gq because he had no bar at all, the cop said that there's not to be any chassis showing ( on a gq the rails extend past the chassis bar so you have about 80mm or so of square tubing pointing straight at the person who just rammed the arse) I can see the point in it.
If its not in the rules there must not be a rule.

Do you have a picture of the style you are thinking of?

dunno about that, I reckon I could pick an arb bar a mile away.

the protofab one looks pretty good. http://www.kevinsoffroad.com/cart/wj...arrier-p-1583/
I like the underbody protection for the tank though i'd have to work around the tow hitch to use the existing one.

I haven't really put too much thought into design just yet, just wanted to make sure I wouldn't run into legal issues before I wandered too far down the path. Thanks for the input guys. I'll be looking at starting the build early next year and will make sure to document it and run a thread on the build.

You might but your average policeman on the side of the road won't.

yeah fair point. I'm more concerned about the insurance assessor though, rather than the cops.
