Tj wrangler - error code 42

Hi guys , my jeep won't start

Ran through the forum and found the on off key trick to show error codes

Error code 42 appears.

I think fuel related cause..

firstly can't hear pump when ignition on
Squirt juice into throttle body and its fires up for a sec
Checked fuses and relays - all ok

Bridged fuel pump relayed at fuse box ( connection 30 and 87 as per relay ) and no fuel pump noise

Ran volt meter at fuel tank loom - 12 volts is being recieved at plug that goes into fuel pump

I'm assuming it's a bad fuel pump but have not dropped tank yet .. New to the wrangler scene , common problem ?

Any other tests before I start tank drop ?

Hit the tank with a rubber mallet while somebody else is cranking the engine over. If it's the fuel pump 7 or 8 times out of 10 it'll start when you do this. If it does start, then you know for sure it's the fuel pump, and it's just a case of putting a new one in.

not a common problem per se, but all fuel pumps eventually pack up with age and normal wear and tear

assume your Jeep is of a higher mileage and older model?
