Default WH 2010 ,Front diff temperature ?

Anybody felt or taken the temp of the front diff after a highway run? Felt mine and a mates and just about too hot to hold on to,this includes cv. Had no problems with it ,however its no wonder the CVs dry out. Still have the plastic undertray

I've measured mine a while ago with a laser therm. in the middle of winter, anywhere on the main diff "pumpkin" was around 50C on the front, rear was a bit less.

This was after highway and some hills on fairly cold days (maybe ~5-10C ambient.), no towing, but a reasonably heavily loaded WH with 32" MTs, and a steel bash-plate instead of the plastic guard (dunno which would give better airflow?).

I was measuring to get rough figures for a device I've been working on to determine approx. oil temperature by measuring resistance in the QDII solenoid coil (there's indication in the schematics that the FDCM already does this for some error codes.).

Wouldn't be surprised if it feels hot to touch on a warm day. ~70-80C can start being uncomfortable to touch but still pretty safe for the oils we use.
I recon if you were doing damage you wouldn't even get close to the diff, let-alone touch it.
The oil will be slightly hotter than the surface, but not enough to worry about if the diff and ambient temperature have been consistent (like a long highway run.).

Check your fluid level. You should be able to feel the oil with your finger, if you cant I would say its too low.

While on level ground if more then a dribble runs out its over full.
