Default Coolant Capicity/Type

Hi

I've read to conflicting amounts of coolant required for a 2.7 CRD (2003) one said 14.x litres and the other said 8.9 litres. I want to purchase the correct amount.

Or are both figures correct and one is the Rad capacity and the other figure total amount including coolant around the engine?

If this is the case how is the coolant lest around the engine itself removed?

Is there a drain plug on the radiator or do I have to just remove the lower hose?

Is there a difference between HOAT and OAT coolant? Here in Ireland and can see that the OAT is readily available HOAT seems to be advertised less.

I also seen a mercedes G05 coolant specified.

thanks

Eoin

The Green coolant you can buy is HOAT and the Red is OAT.

Best bet is to do a total system flush including the heater core and replace it totally.

What is in there at the moment? Red or Green?

The Nulon Rll, (Red OAT), or LL, (Green HOAT), are both concentrates and are great products. Don't bother with premix coolant as it's a waste of time and money.

Both are available in a 5lt and 2.5lt which would be enough to give you a 50/50 mix and the best possible cooling protection for several years.

I did a flush, removed the radiator and had it reco'd. Refilled with just under 10L

I would highly recommend having the radiator reco'd if you are anywhere near 200,000km. If you're near Berwick, Vic the place that did mine was $99

Colour doesn't dictate whether it is HOAT or OAT and the concentrate is ok as long as you mix it with distilled water cheaper to buy premix. Just make sure you use a HOAT coolant
