Default Installing a snorkle on a KJ

Guys

Had a snorkle installed a few years ago and the hose that connects the snorkle to the airbox has split. Now it seems like a big job to replace but have noticed that the hole from the the snorkle to the air box does not match up.The airbox intake hole is much lower than where the hole is for the snorkle.
How have others had theirs installed as the hose is spliting due to the angle/alignment from the snorkle output to the airbox input
This was installed by someone that specialises in jeeps.

Mine has been been fine since installed in 2008, but then i installed it myself. Hose runs straight, with proper edge protection on all edges. I have seen some terrible installs over the years. I had to drop into Town & Country 4x4 in Sydney once to deliver a cutout template for a friend's KJ. They did not know what they were doing, despite claiming to be experienced. Don't believe them unless you can inspect one of their installs. Typical time saving short cuts they use are: cutting without a template, not insuring straight runs, not applying proper rust proofing to all exposed cut surfaces and holes drilled to attach the Snorkel to the guard, not using galvanised backing washers inside the guard, not using hole edge protection, not sealing the hose airbox entry with Sikafkex 227, not bedding the snorkel tube in Sikaflex to prevent water and dust entry between the snorkel and guard, etc.
I have seen supposed Pro installs that take a just couple of hours, but to do it properly can take two days when you are rust guarding all exposed metal and allowing proper cure times for the bedding material.
That aforementioned friend's KJ, was hydro- locked, and written off, last year when he dropped the nose into a bog hole - the installer had never sealed the airbox and water flooded in filling up the box. There is no point having a snorkel if it is not sealed, well other than pose value.

Well mine is not aligned from the snorkle end to the Airbox, the airbox inlet hole is actually lower and a little forward so it has a kink in it. Taking it to a 4x4 shop next week to let them either replace the hose (Have been sent a spare from AirFlow) or try and use a silicon hose like the safari snorkles.
perhaps all it need is the airbox raised about 10mmm however i certainly dont want to try this myself

Instead of mucking around with bendy hoses that may well split again or lifting the airbox which may cause other problems, it might be worthwhile to consider getting a new/second hand airbox lower and putting the inlet in the right place to suit your snorkel.
Look at the V6, I4 airboxes if you can't find a deso one as they are interchangeable to some degree (I've got a V6 lower in our KJ and it fitted no probs) just take a bit more modding when fitting a snorkel according to the instructions

You can't raise the airbox, the MAF wiring connector is dangerously close to the bonnet insulation blanket at normal height. I have seen one break off due to corrugation bounce. Go with a new flexi hose, or open up the original front air box entry and let it breath through there. Most people never actually need the snorkel anyway. I have a ram air port on the front of the airbox that it usually breathes through, when i head to the bush i block it off and it breathes through the snorkel. Fuel economy is much better around town this way. People will rave about snorkel ram air effect, but it doesn't have any effect on a KJ CRD that i can see, especially in the city.
