Default Cane toad roof rack

Hi everyone my name is max and I’m new in the forum . I just bought a 2011 wk2 gc and I’m pretty excited to start with some mods ASAP . I just got the cane toad roof rack and I was planning to put a kings RTT and awning so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this roof rack . I know that the factory rate is 68 kg but I have been reading some comments and it looks like this is only when you use normal racks with 4 points of support . This one uses 6 point and claim 200 kg ! Hopefully someone can share any experience. Thank you very much and I’m glad to be part of this new forum ! Cheers

Welcome to the boards.

The rating is what the roof rack can handle. It is not what the roof can handle.

I have the Cane Toad racks on a MY14 GC. Love them!!!

Max load: 160kg (at centre of gravity height not over 40cm).
Never had that kind of load on it. Max probably about 90kg, No Problem.

Good to know hunno ... if it handles well with 90 kg dinámic do you think it would be any issue with 230 static ? I weight 100 kg +girlfriend 60 kg + roof top tent 63 kg .

I put apart the original rails and they are rubish to be honest . I’m thinking that maybe I can build some custom rails to transfer the weight to the pinch weld . I already checked how much I can extend the rack brackets and they reach just over the rubber seal on the weld . I will try to find something to build them and I will see how it’s goes .

( sorry for my English ... I’m from Chile and I’m still learning English ... mate!

I tried to upload pictures but doesn’t work

Hey imaz thanks for the info . I was thinking in just add a plate from the original screw points on the roof up to the pinch weld point ... and just use the seal as a support . I have never planned to drill through. I was checking the uneek rails and they look like they are not bolted through. Do you have any info about that system? Thanks
