Thats a tough one Joe, but it sound like you may have to take the right front wheel off. Check upper and lower control arms and bushes. Check brake caliper and pads. Check steering box where it bolts to chasis. Check for play in the front wheel bearing ( with Jeep jacked up and wheel on ). Check shock absorber. Check ball joints. Check d30 axle uni joint.

Strange that it goes away, leading me to believe its something that freezes up a bit, then with some movement and clunking it "loosens up a bit". A bush or bearing if it only does it after resting for a while and then goes away.

Can you have someone drive off in the car slowly while you observe the front end and try to locate noise. Can it be replicated in the driveway by just moving forward and backward a meter after being parked overnight. Can you bounce up and down on the right front side and replicate it.

Get under the car and wiggle everything to see if anything is loose/worn.
Controll arms can be removed and bolts greased. Steering box bolts can be checked for tightness. Shock can be checked for leaking oil, tightness. Caliper can be checked if it is loose or worn. The caliper slides in and out on a rail. If the rail is grooved, the caliper can stick a bit. Driving and braking can make it clunk and then it settles down.

Wheel bearing may be going out and until it rotates a few times, it may be dry and clunky. Rotate you wheel when it is jacked up and listen for funny noises and looseness.

Going to take a bit of trial and error, but something best done at home. A workshop could be chasing an intermittent problem for ages. Especially when it goes away all the time.

Cheers,

Sounds a bit coincidental.

Did you grease the bolts properly? They might need re-greasing, bushes checking (the one on the diff), and all bolts re tightening. On the tops and bottoms.

Hope you sort it soon. Sounds like you might be on the right track now..

Cheers,
