Default 2003 Grand CRD problem

I have a 2003 CRD Grand (Australian) which when accelerating from rest under more than 1/2 throttle or with load, ie. trailer, it cuts back to idle then restarts and can do this repeatedly unless the throttle is eased off. Once moving at more than 40 kph there is no problem at all. Happening at the same time, the speedo shows speed while accelerating, but when the throttle is backed off the needle drops to zero, returning to the speed when you accelerate again. Mechanics have replaced every computer, throttle actuator, a variety of sensors and have acheived no improvement at all. Possible wiring issue is the only response. Any ideas?

Torque converter? There's a bit of history of these failing in the CRDs at about 110,000kms

Thanks for the input. The transmission was serviced at 120k (last service). Symptoms are more of the engine cutting out, or returning to idle condition, then accelerating again. Problem is intermittent, but can be created by heavy acceleration after long idle period, ie. a set of traffic lights. How can the torque convertor stop the engine? Is it linked through the computer? None of the error codes indicate the transmission to be a problem.

Ian,
You mention fault codes, what codes are they? My bet would be on a faulty Throttle Position Sensor.

Dont they have a drive by wire throttle? Wondering if that could be it?
Is this the 2.7 or the 3.0 litre diesel?
