Default Ragged Edge Outlaws Competition

We've had quite a few Ausjeepoffroad members down at Ragged Edge so I thought I'd give you the heads up on a Comp we're running next year at the new location. Here's the details:

After a few years in the making Ragged Edge will be holding it’s first 4x4 Event in Werribee Vic over the weekend of Feb 27th-28th 2010.

In late 2008 Ragged Edge moved from Port Melbourne to the Melbourne 4x4 Training and Proving Grounds in Mt Cottrell, just out of Werribee. This will be home to the Ragged Edge ‘Outlaws Competition.’

We’ll be giving away the truck that Pete Antunac won Tuff Truck 2005 & 2006 with (and 3rd 2007) as a door prize to one of the first 2,000 spectators that purchase a weekend pass to the competition for $55. Tickets are now on sale and can purchased directly from Ragged Edge 4x4; email chris@raggededge.com.au or call 0428 737 864 or from Dan at Rally Motors Geelong (03) 5222 1777.

The truck is now getting overhauled and will given away in ‘ready to compete condition’ with the 454, four wheel steer, hydraulic suspension and a (new) set of 49’s. The door prize will be announced on the 6th September at the new National 4x4 Show at the Royal Show Grounds so you don’t have long to buy tickets.

The competition itself will be Tuff Truck style; with a few key changes. The 4x4s must still appear based on a production 4x4. Vehicles must have two seats side by side, front mounted engine, minimum 39” tire, box section or original chassis between A-pillar and B-pillar. For more information e-mail me. You will need either rear disconnects or rear steer (pref both) to get through the courses so one or the other is a minimum requirement.

Entry to the first comp will be by invitation so send me pics and specs. The key things I’m looking for are strong, capable and presentable. There won’t be deep mud or big vert rock ledges but there will be everything in between so you will need a versatile 4x4. I can tell you it will need to climb and side hill like a MO FO to be competitive.

We will be building purpose built tracks at Werribee for the event. As you can see my focus is on a big crowd with the door prize give away. We’ve had well over 1,000 people drive our 4x4’s both in Port Melbourne and Werribee and the question I get asked by far the most from these guys is “where do we see comps?” Most of my clients have never heard of our scene but want to; I figure this is the best way to show them. I’ve been very fortunate to have the full support of Pete Antunac who’ll be bringing down his new 40, Phil Noble will be bringing his big GU and Mal Van alphabet will be bringing his Bush Rangie. Mark Mitchell is bringing his Zuk and I have a few other entries in the pipeline. I know there are a bunch of other cool trucks sitting in sheds around the country so please let me know if you’re interested. Places will be capped at 24 and I have 10 starters already. I’m still working on Prize Money but last place prize money is the same as the entry fee ($450).

Entry to the first comp will be by invitation only so send me pics and specs. The key things I’m looking for are strong, capable and presentable. There won’t be deep mud or big vert rock ledges but there will be everything in between so you will need a versatile 4x4. I can tell you it will need to side hill like a MO FO to be competitive.

The comp area has lights so there will be night driving on the Saturday but there will be no camping on the property (it’s less than 30mins to Melbourne CBD)

There will be more information to follow but if there are any questions I will try and answer them as soon as I’m able.

Thanks

Chris

Hell yes!

Nick and Craig were the first guys I called. Got to have some Victorians in there. It's a proven truck and the boys can seriously drive.

I haven't got onto Sean or Matt yet but I will be chasing them up. Anyone else you have in mind?

I didn't mention it before but I know a few of the guys are looking at this comp as a chance to get their rigs dialed in for Tuff Truck so I won't be 'destroying' cars on the tracks (though it will be far from easy). I think this is the perfect comp for a tuff TJ that might not be quite as modified as Black Betty or Fire Truck to have a crack.

Other option is just win the truck!

Looks like we'll have more Jeeps than Nissan or Toyota's! Michael DePasquale is bringing his Willy Jeep and I have another three in the works. Shane Bakes has a NICE TJ with Atlas II, Hi9s and 40" stickies being built at Overkill Engineering that will hopefully be making the trip south.
