Default How did you wire your spotties

Hi,

How did you wire your spotties up?

a) you linked into the high beam wire inside the dash board and then through your switch out to the relay. If so, which colour wire is it and where is the best place to find it?

b) you tapped into high beam outside near the main lights and sent the estimated 20amps or so current through your firewall into your switch in the dash and then back out again?

c) or you did something better and would be happy to share your idea with me.

Use a plug and play loom, much easier, the good ones use 6mm/50 amp wire with proper connectors and good quality 30A relays.

scroll to the bottom of the page, P/N HT2030

or pirhanha do a loom too.

The switching wire plugs in between the std loom and the back of the headlight. Mount the relay on the firewall or inner guard, connect the power to battery and the earth, and you're done.

I'm in the middle of wiring up a new set of spotties, and was wondering about the trigger wire as well. I currently have one of those clips for splicing into another wire connected to the high beam wire just behind the headlight, using a thin ish wire and going to a switch in the cab to use as a trigger wire for the relay.

Can someone correct me if I am wrong, but even though you are tapping into a potentially high amperage wire (the high beam power) as it is only being used to switch the relay on, it would not be pulling that current, therefore it would be safe to use a thinner wire for the switch? I hope this makes sense.

Yeah pentastar thats what I thought.

I was going to buy the kit from supercheap, but ended up making it myself cos I had alot of the wiring and stuff already, only really needed the relay. It really is fiddly getting to the headlight wire, I had to take the horn off (which was a real bastard with the little self tapping torx screw).

Will take pics tonight once finished.

I pretty well went to town when I did my driving lights. Tried to fit all the wiring I'd ever need from the start, making it neater and easier as I add stuff. Full write up is here: http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...ad.php?t=83936
