Latest NSW light bar rule?
Is it legal to mount lights above the bonnet/hood line, specifically A Pillar and roof?
Just can't keep up with the changes and different state rules.

I don't believe it's legal in NSW. I did a lot of research when I was looking at fitting a lightbar on the roof.
At that stage the only thing I found was that NSW changed the rules in 2011 about the 1200mm height restriction (meaning it could go on the roof).
The other rule was that it had to be forward of the driver (meaning it could go on the roof at the windscreen line). It also had to be double switched with the highbeam being the trigger (all good so far). It also couldn't be allowed to reflect back into the driver.
The only rule that seemed to make it illegal was the rule that they had to be fitted in pairs (which no longer exists).
So all good, I fitted my lightbar on the roof. Now with the new ADR's out, I believe its changed now to only being allowed on top of a bullbar as long as it doesn't stick up over bonnet height causing a distraction to the driver.
So I just threw up my hands, left it on and if I get told to remove it I will. Thankfully my insurance company (Club 4x4) will insure illegal mods as long as it's not a contributing factor to your claim so it stays.

Yeah, I'm with you. I have taken down my 50" roof LEDs on the Grand but still have A Pillar LEDs on the JK via a SPOD switch. They are illegal but...nah...until I'm told to take em off, they're staying. I'll just cover them up with old black socks or some plastic cover or something. Haa..haa..

I'm trying to find the black and white on this as a mate has a couple of big spotties on top of his bullbar which are over the bonnet/hood height. Where the bloody hell is it??

Sorry I don't have a link about the spotties on the bullbar, however like the placement of a light bar on the roof it's all down to how it's interpreted because it just mentions it's not to distract or obscure vision.
I've read rules that say if the lights are behind the driver (i.e on the sports bar of a ute) it's illegal. But on an A pillar mount like mine it's legal because it's sitting in front of the driver. Then you see a diagram like the ADR one Mace1 posted which makes it illegal.
So who knows!
I'm leaving mine on as I use it when on the beach at night. I've never been knocked back for green slip or had any police mention it so until they do it stays.
The rest of my mods are all within the law (that I know of LOL) so it would be the only thing I could get pinged on. Then again there is the MBRP exhaust.....
