Default Time to change the sons clutch

OK so i'm sure this has been done before but this is my first clutch replacement in many years. My sons petrol JK has done a clutch and I have been elected to change it to save the poor sod some hard earned. Is there anything special that i need to pay attention to when installing a new clutch (using a heavy duty unit). Is the flywheel machinable?? is there any tricks when seperating the transfercase from the gearbox? Please any tips to make this as quick and trouble free as possible would be great. We have exactly 1 day to get it back on the road before he has to drive to work again.
Thanks in advance

I haven't done one yet, but wouldn't be seperating the transfercase if I didn't have to, just lower it out together.

X2 on that! If it's a petrol, then the flywheel is a solid unit & is machineable; it's the diesels that come with the non-machineable dual-mass flywheels. From what I've read it wouldn't hurt to change out the clutch slave cylinder while you're at it as they're known to fail prematurely.

Thanks I'll check the slave cylinder out. He's low on cash so it's fix as the cash comes in. He blew his front diff too so it's one thing at a time

If you have a hoist changing the clutch is simple but if on jack stands its gona be a TASK. There is a jeep service manual out here so please consult it.

Also what are the symptons you have based thatbu need a new clutch? I know of few people who thought thier clutch is gone but as a matt of fact it was a Clutch slave cylinder which is very common on Petrol JKs and one must keep a spare for emergency situations.

Now if you are sure that you need a new clutch what brand are you using stock mopar clutch or after market.
Based on my personal experience after doing many clutches i stronlgy recommend Center Force Dual Friction clutch with pressure plate. And definately change the throw out bearing also which is also a very very common for squeeky and rattling noises etc

I know you are trying to save some coin on him but doing it properly the first time will save u more coins that doing twice.

Since you are doing the labor ur self u are already saving some.

DBOR sells JK center force dual friction clutches but you have to buy the throe out bearing on top of that bec it does not come with it which is not expensive.

Also not sure where are you located but give me ur address i will send you a CD version of the JK service manual which will guide you step by step.

Thanks JK07 the symptoms are a slipping clutch which unless the slave cylinder is locking up then at a guess id say clutch and at the hands of a 20yr old I'd say he rode it too much. No hoist at home but I'm used to it. Going to takle it Tuesday nite into Wednesday so probably no time for a workshop cd but many thanks for the offer. The kit is from my local brake and clutch not sure of brand but they claim its heavy duty, if it didn't come with the thrust bearing I would get one anyway(once bitten twice shy) also getting the flywheel machined. But in saying that I'm going to check it out fully before I start to dismantle it and make 100% certain that it is the clutch.
