Default Vic high country - Twins Rd (Dargo Highplans)

Hi Folks,

Will be up in the Vic high country over Easter. I'm pretty much a beginner, but explore a bit more of the area each time we visit.

Does anyone know Twins Rd? Its on the left where the Dargo High Plains Rd meets the Great Alpine Rd.. I'd like to do the following route, so appreciate any comments on difficulty (stock Jeep GC Overland, 18" A/T tires).

Twins Rd - Mt Murray Trk - Selwyn Crk Rd - Pheasant Creek Trk - Gunns Trk / Gunns Creek trk...

From then on into Harrietville or Wandy where I'm pretty familiar with the tracks..

I've done Guns Trk and Surgarloaf Trk a few times which seemed pretty straight forward so any 'relative' comparisons of the first part of the drive would help!

Cheers

The track that meets the Great Alpine road just down from Dargo High Plains road junction is Twins Jeep Track. This is an easy track with great veiws. Mount murry rd, mount Murry North trk, Selwyn creek rd are also very easy. There are a couple of mildly steep sections around this area (particularly on Dingo Creek Tk) that could be a bit dangerous if it was absolutely pooring down, but otherwise you will be fine in a stock 4wd with low range transfer.

One obstacle can be fallen trees across the road. Also, take a good map as its easy to get lost around there.

Can't think of where Pheasant Creek Trk and Gunns Trk are... so can't comment.

Hi guys,
Sorry to hijack your thread, but also would appreciate comments on track conditions along Basalt Knob North, Brewery Creek Rd and Collingwood Spur. Will have a stock Prado.
Might see you at the Dargo Pub ....
Cheers

The start of Dingo Creek track on the Selwyn road end, just over the creek has a nice little steep section to keep the 2wd people out. i have never tried it with the camper on the back, probably need mud tyres.
From the Buckland Valley road to the Dargo - High plains intersection you could do when dry with a 2wd. Rain is forecast for Thursday, Friday & Saturday so maybe the dust will be settled.
If you find any downed trees, check for ants & bees before you try & clear them. You dont need 3 million ant bites or bee stings.
The camp sites in the lower Buckland will be as busy as Burke St.
Every one with a jeep needs a pic of their jeep under the Twins Jeep track sign.
if you want to go to the top of Mt Murray, dont be a twit & drive around the gate, go for a walk. it will do you good.
Unless you are a rev head that likes black top windy roads, if you come from Dargo to the high plains road, turn back towards the Twins jeep track & come down via the Buckland valley to the big roundabout where you go to Buffalo.
A sight chance that I maybe in there some place if it isnt too wet, have a couple of other good hiding places I may go to instead.

I ran a trip with MJOC from Blue Rag, and down and into Porepunkah and Bright Twins Jeep track, followed the next day by cross country to Craigs Hut. Some of the most spectacular scenery you'll ever see.

They aren't difficult at all, but if there's been a bit of rain some of the small creek crossings may be up a little.

A good air compressor to air down and a chainsaw both won't go astray. The chainsaw purely in case a tree or two have come down.

Here's a link to a video of the weekend and the tracks a couple of the guys put together.

Have a great trip.

If you want a spectacular track trip back to Bright from the upper buckland vally area take Buffalo Range Track, then onto Yarrabuck track, then back onto the buckland rd via Goldie Spur trak. Personally I rate Buffalo Range Track higher than Blue Rag...
