Default XJ 94TD 2.5 issue?

Hello everyone i have been recommend your site from a UK to see if you ca help.

I have just been out to start my choerkee, 2.5td 94 and it won't turn over and then there was alot of smoke coming from the engine bay, but the engine just turns over and won't start.

It comes from the left back (opposite side of the dipstick) but when i take the key out and stop turning the engine over there isn;t anymore smoke.

But i left for a few days then went back and it started again. Also there is a small light under the bonnet that was unplugged so i plugged it back in and then these issues started to happen. Could this be related?

Any ideas?

Cheers
Andy

The light is just to make it a bit easier to see under the bonnet, it won't stop it from starting...

Have you unpluged the light again.
Smoke Something burning, Get auto electrician to check, sounds like your starter motor or solonoid may have problem.

yeah that's my thoughts too, there's something electrical on the fritz. Go see an auto electrician, or try for yourself if you can get someone under to se exactly what's 'burning'...

You should be able to smell the insulation burning if that is the case though.

that side houses the turbo. could have pissed oil all over the starter. double check the egr unit is all bolted up properly, they seem to have a habit of coming loose. i'm assuming mechanical reasons for smoke, not electrical. what color smoke, does it kick over even a little or just crank?
