why do you want 17" steel rims?

i've never heard of anyone making them, so they'll be expensive + your tyres will cost more as they will be a weird size that doesn't sell in bulk.

I am considering fitting 265x70x17 which are a 32" tyre. They are 10.5" wide instead of 11.5. The narrower tyre will bite through loose gravel better and the 17" tyre will have a shorter side wall and will have less tyre squirm when cornering on the road. Notice this is the direction the manufactures are going. The new TK has something similar from memory. Just found some on the website for "4wheel parts" although they are only available in 17x8x4.5 and I would like 17x7x3.75. Didnt realise there is such a small range to choose from. I may be able to get them made up I havent looked yet. I have noticed that the 17" tyres are more expensive which may mean I'll just stay with 15s and get the 32x11.5. I would also be less obvious with the narrower tyres.

That is true, you would be able to get alloys in that price range but still 17" 4wd tyres would be expensive as.

Not really worth it imo.

A 32" x 15" tyre is not going to give you any grief on the road David, with the thicker sidewalls that are run compared with a standard tyre, run at the right psi you wont get it "squirming" on the road.

BTW keen to check out you Jeep now, hear you ran a winch through the house during install
