Question T18 & D20 in a cj5?

To all the people with more jeep know how than me,
I will beefing up the entire driveline in my jeep and before i start i would like to know if anyone has carried out this particular conversion.
I have spend days on the net and have found stacks of information that is going to help me during the build, but before i start i would like to know if it has been done in this country.
My jeep is a early model CJ5 short nose. Short wheel base of coarse.
I will be attempting to put this drive line in.
302windsor with T18 already attached, i want to use a DANA20 transfercase then to a DANA44 via a double cardinal joint equipped drive shaft.
I know it is going to be a bit of a tight fit being a short wheel base but has anyone heard of someone diong this?

Thanks guys
AJ...

Red face

mate ya gunna need a shoehorn,,,trust me...been a while since i've done some jeep tinkering but will see what i can remember....try and get a t-18 with short input shaft,,preferably one with 6.32 first gear(t-18a),,if ya cant,,am pretty sure you can swap a long shaft over to a short shaft,,will reduce gearbox length by about 4 inches or so from memory....now the dana 20,,,i wouldn't do that,,since the 20 has its rear output up the top,,your gunna end up with a hell of a bad angle for your rear shaft,,specially if you plan to get some lift,,,the dana 18 would survive,,but you would want a big shaft(1 1/4inch intermediate shaft) dana 18,,,another way to go is if you have a big shaft dana 18 you can swap all the internals out of it into the dana 20 case(beefier case),,,but i do know you will need a certain output gear to go on the output shaft of the gearbox into the transfer,,,think it is a 6 spline from memory but dont quote me on that....also the benifit from using a d18 to a d20 is you will get 2.46 to 1 instead of a measily 2 to 1....now if you jeep is already running a dana 18 transfer,,,then i guess your rear pumpkin would be offset to the right as well.....no good if you want to run a dana 20,,it needs to be in the centre.....hope i havnt confused you to much,,,if you want to have a yarn shoot me a pm and will give ya a number to give me a bell on,,,probly got some links here to for ya to have a gander at.......
