Default Dreaded electrical gremlins / car starts and then stalls

Hi, grrr. Electrical gremlins. Symptoms are car will start and then run for a minute or so and then stall. No mechanical issues etc.

Can't get any codes off the ECU and my mechanic's DRB111 can't communicate with the ECU. We can talk to the transmission module fine.

He's a pretty good operator and a transmission expert but is stumped.

So early thinking is cactus ECU.

So on this car there is an ECU and a separate PCM? Or is the PCM and ECU stand alone unit? Eg combined.

Thinking I can send the ECU to UK ECU-testing (http://www.ecutesting.com/) who I've had good reports about. And they can test the unit and, if necessary, rebuild.

Anything else I should be looking for?

Many thanks, in quiet desperation.

I'd be checking the battery voltage while the engine is cranking to see what it drops down to under load - ecu's/computers etc don't really like it when the starter motor grabs all the power & leaves them with SFA to do their job.

Cheers

Had exact same issues with a 2003 model non jeep vehicle due to repeated short trips- put battery on charge for 6-8 hrs problem went away.

Cheers

Diesel?

Try the free software from www.jeepswj.com for errors codes. Note a *real* ELM327 is required, not a clone.

EDIT: More specifically, see https://jeepswj.com/software/

Could this be the dodgy wire in the door look problem. I've read that can cause all sorts of problems.

hi mate, that tends to knock out the electric windows/door locks/AC etc. Yep, been there and done that.
