Default Eildon / Big river

I was down there at the beginning of June. The lake is pretty empty at the moment, so there's fun to be had. We had a nice drive across the lake as we were passing through towards Mansfield.

We entered near Bonnie Doon and came out one of the boat ramps down the lake a bit. It seems to be quite popular with the locals, there's quite a number of trails created through it, and we noticed a good few trailbikers down there at the time.

Think the Mt Stirling track near Mansfield is now closed, but its a good trip out to Craigs Hut for a look see. The day we were out there the track was covered in sleet and it was pissing down... the truck was sliding sideways at 5k/hr....ehehh lots of fun.

Thanks Doc - I hear there are some good tracks down south around Big River Rd which I'll check out also. By then, TW will have worked some magic on my humble (but Loved) ZJ!

d.m, work your way along big river road from the south (marysville) end, there are 4 million tracks to play on including a nice climb to mt terrible that would be fun rite now. oewr to gaffneys creek & on. its all wheelin territory.

look out for the bottomless mud around the shores of the lake, espessially if there is a trough, the water is still flowing but underground and a very special mix of quick mud will slow anything to a dead halt.

there is heaps of great camping spots along big river. DO keep an eye out for dirt bikers, its a very popular spot.

and doc, serenity mate, serenity is what bonnie doon is all about! (when water is there-which there is still zilch as of last weekend when i saw it)

Not sure if I can make it along. Nothing to do with you, but I saw your "trip" on the JOCV site as well.
I now understand the message board is being shut down due to legal stuff with trips being posted on the JOCV board and not "sanctioned". It's a pity that this has happened, but then again the JOCV board didn't get a lot of use.
Just have to keep up with trips and stuff here!

Ross - only a temporary shut down until a disclaimer is added to the JOCV chat board indicating that unless the trip appears on official trip board of JOCV - not covered by insurance / indorsed by club etc. Not a biggy - just that the club's insurance is getting quite strict and they don't won't anyone being under the apprehension that the chat brd is official view of club etc.

TW - thanks for the input - it'll be a good chance to give your 'tweaking' a work out. :D
