Default 2009 JK UConnect

Hi Folks,
Just had my JK Unlimited in for it's 40k service and thought I would ask about hands free and Uconnect, thought I would lash out and get it activated.

The dealers parts guy tells me that 09 plated JKs arent able to have it fitted and activated, they have tried and it doesn't work, if it was a 2010 plate not a problem.

I asked him if the stereos went up in cost between 09/10 cause I would expect a full functioning one to cost more than a half functioning one like I paid for. Can't find anywhere where it says 2009 uconnect not available so I told him he better get me an answer from Jeep AU.

Anyone here got a solution for this problem if I am stuck by JeepAU.

Cheers
Dave

Sorry Dave but I was under the impression that no Aust Jk has uconnect available.

I think there was a thread about someone buying a o/s mygig and installing.

found info on a kit for getting Uconnect bluetooth phone integration/ipod integration on a RES radio (the 6 cd stacker one) with the Uconnect button that does nothing, you'll need a kit from mopar, and you also need a ipod harness as well so you can use stero controls to control your ipod, the link for the mopar part numbers and info is below, i'm assuming it'll work on the aussie JK's as well

http://www.mopar-accessories.com/en-...=3025&pc=57740

you can try install it yourself or get a dealer to do it for you, just give them the right part number, there is also a kit to get bluetooth on res radio without the Uconnect button on the radio

i've read somewhere that you might have to get a dealer to flash the comp into recognising that the module/kit has been installed, but not 100% sure on that, maybe some1 else on here can confirm if thats need

JK07, was it had to install and did you need to order a kit from US? My Nokia handfree is a bout to die and it would be easier to use a inbuilt system.

I've done a little research into this recently and as far as I understand it's simply a matter of buying a cheap microphone kit off ebay & plugging it in. Then you need to go into the engineering menu and enable the u-connect function (I got this off the mygig website, where they have loads of information & give intructions on how to get into the engineering menu).

I intend to do this in the next few weeks on my '09 mygig when I get some time so I'll post an update with my results (cheap mic kits are only like 30 or 40 bucks so I've nothing to loose).

Apparantly it's not so much the case that the mygigs in Wranglers weren't fitted with the u-connect module or programming, but rather the function was simply disabled in the engineering menu and the microphone not fitted since the boys at Chrysler found that it didn't work well in the Wrangler with the top off due to all the wind & noise. Many dealers seem to get this issue confused with the issue surrounding mygig units that come without the GPS/nav function. In this case it's not simply a matter of loading maps & enabling the feature as there is a seperate nav module that is missing from the head unit.

Just buy the mopar uconnect kit from ebay make sure its for jk. If you need additional ipod feature you need to purchase a seperate cable for ipod but the features do not work on my REQ 6 stack cd unit. So all it does is charge the ipod.

What unit version you have REQ or RES

Its a simple add on feature. After the install you have to go to dealer to add a uconnect code in your system and thats all.
