Default Speedo/Tacho not working

Hi all,

have just been away for a week and picked up the car from the parking station and found the speedo and tacho not working. Everything else is fine in the instrument cluster, so not the fuse (although I haven't been able to take it out to check as I don't have a fuse remover - but manual says one fuse does whole cluster).

The tacho moves slightly. It is really low when engine off, and then moves up slightly after starting - so it is getting power. It is way below zero though at all times. It doesn't move at all when revs increase.

I'm not sure if the parking guys disconnected the battery or not. It is on it's way out. It will normally not start the car if I haven't driven it for a few days, but this time was 7 days and it started no probs. I had mentioned to them that I may need a jump start and they said no worries, or they could disconnect. I said lets just jump (as I didn't want to reset clock etc). Clock was wrong though.

All connections are tight.

Any ideas?? Will get a new battery as I do know that they can cause many problems if not full voltage.

yeah- my bro left his car(Rav4 only a few months old) at the parking station for a week. The gumby No.1 attendant left the one door open when they parked it. Yep flat battery when he when to start up. " hey man no probem ill get da boosta pack" gumby No.2 said. Then gumby no.2 went to boost it but got + & - all mixed up(hey that is some confusing stuff,50/50 change of getting it right).
Well Gumby No.2 fried all the electroncs on the Rav4.
Yes the did fix the car via a 2 week visit to toyota billed to the parking station plus the 160km tilt tray & taxi ride home.

Morals
Yes the Rav4 is shit and isn't a real 4x4.(the trip to the snow last year proved that).
If you care about ur car, don't let parking attendants touch ur car.

Pmac i would hate to think what they might have done.

Yeah theyve flatened the batt which has caused the speedo & tacho to do full rev & are now on the wrong side of stops.
Easy fix just put dash into diagnostic mode , let it do its thing ,& all good.
To enter diag mode , hold trip meter button (on speedo) down whilst turn ign to on but dont start.

Glad that fixed it.
This is out of the service manual.

"NOTE: Occasionally, a condition may be encountered
where the gauge pointer for the speedometer
or the tachometer becomes caught on the wrong
side of the pointer stop. To correct this condition,
the technician should use a DRBIIIT scan tool and
the appropriate diagnostic information to perform
the instrument cluster self-diagnostic actuator test
procedure. When performed, the actuator test procedure
will automatically return the pointer to the
correct side of the pointer stop
."

Reading the service manual the dash ilumination runs on 80v ac!
