After looking around on the net I stumbled across some upgraded, rebuildable engine mounts from various manufacturers which inspired me to have a go at bulding some as my mounts are getting on a little.
What I noticed was that several of the commercial units are using control arm bushes as the insert.
So I gathered some materials...
Some d30 diff tube, some 50x75 RHS and some 25mm solid bar which will be used as spacers as the LCA bush's sleeve is a little shorter then the original engine mount's sleeve, also the LCA bush's sleeve has a larger diameter hole then the original mount so I will need to machine a space for each end which incorporate an intergral sleeve to correct this.
So I machined the d30 axle tube to the correct size for the LCA bush, including the rebate for the step in the outer sleeve and then cut and faced to length.
I then measured, marked and cut the recesses for the outer ring to be fitted.
This is what was removed from the RHS...
Which once all assembled gave a result that looks a little like this although it still requires a lot of finishing off before they can be painted and have a bush pressed into them...
.
Next time I get access to the lathe I will machine up the spacers and do the finishing off so there will be some more to come.....
