Default Engine drive belt WH CRD

Just noticed my engine belt has a lot of small cracks. Surely this should have been noted at recent service? Anyone replaced one?
Looks like it would difficult!Cost?

heh.... yeah first time ya look at it ya think "sheesh what a PITA", easy though.
*Drop plastic cover underneath, dont break the plastic clips.
*Remove intercooler elbow (resinator, black looking who har on front of engine) retaining bolts (star I think) using a 1/4 drive with long extension for the top one, short extension for the bottom one.
*Remove retain clip at top of elbow, pull towards you.
*Slide across bottom elbow retaining clip.
*pull lower intercooler hose off elbow.
*Remove elbow and hold your face right and you can remove it from underneath and while its out give it a clean.
*Take note how the belt routes (yes draw a mad map of it, you will forget).
*Take tension off belt and remove.
*Put on new belt, Dayco from Veales is cheap and work fine.
*Reverse above.

Thats all from memory, so its a point you in the right direction thing.

Daz

I have a brand new one waiting just in case the old one snaps
I forgot to put the oil cap back on properly 2 years ago and the engine leaked oil onto the alternator killing it
I bought a belt as well still haven't used it yet
It was $190 dollars though
Jeep parts are ridiculously expensive its cheaper to buy parts for my XJR jaguar that the Jeep go figure that one out

I believe some cracking of the belt (across the belt) is acceptable, it's cracking along the belt which can be a sign of impending failure. For peace of mind, I replaced mine and kept the old one for emergency. It's a cheap (ish) and relatively simple job - just not at the dealer.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll get a price from dealer for part and fit and also from local auto parts suppliers (Bursons Ballarat) and compare. I'll let you know the difference.
