Default Servicing Costs??

My brother is looking at getting a GC, not sure of the exact model but diesel at least.
Here are his comments

We're gettng serious about one but am getting excuses as to why the dealer
can't tell me what the service costs are extecpt to say that it is
around $5800 for 96000km. Trouble is that the service is a
6month/120000k which means 96000 is only 4 years and $5800 for 4 years
is like holy crap!.

Many other 4wd's are around the $2500-3000 up to 120km, so this seems a little high. Anyone else tell me what they have paid in the first 100k of the car.

In 4 years time take the service elsewhere mate. Surely the love of taking it to dealer servicing would have declined as the car ages. I heard in the coming months that CJD may introduce capped servicing on new cars. Wait for that if your in the market.

Mate dealers are thieves.... I got the first couple of services from the dealer then took it to my mechanic..... They try to make stupid charges for normal jobs.... They wantes $350 just to change my rear brake pads..... They wanted $642 to change diff oils..... now you can understand how it gets to $5800..... Take it to a decent mechanic with scantools etc and it will cost you much less.....

Geez they quoted me $488 to replace my rear pads. I asked if that was new or machined discs and the phone went silent.. Needless to a say I said no thanks.

I'm with trbn8r, stay away from dealers if possible.
Find a good reputable mechanic that knows what he is doing. I take mine to a local mechanic that has been in the business for 30 years and is a one man show.
He doesn't have some young apprentice or inexperienced dude working on it.

Had mine and my daughters BMW 120i serviced by him on the same day last week. Cost me a total of $478.00 for both cars. He uses Penrite oils and top quality filters etc.

Cheers, Craig

And by taking it to a non dealer, does it affect your warranty. You know how some dealers can be. One big problem is finding a decent mechanic that doesn't roll his eyes as soon as you mention that word jeep.

The law says any licensed mechanic can service your car without impacting your warranty. Dealers have no say in it unless you want to take out an extended warranty after the original warranty expires.
