Default WK2 - Noisy fuel pump?

My car has developed a constant high pitched electrical noise that seems to be coming from the fuel tank. I'm guessing the fuel pump is in the tank? Is that correct?

I'm pretty sure it has always made a slight noise but originally you had to listen hard to hear it. The car has been working fairly hard recently, towing a 3.2t caravan and the noise has got worse since we left Perth. We're now on the Eyre Peninsula. It does seem to get louder after a bit of higher speed driving whether we're towing or not, being quite noticeable at speeds up to 50 or 60-k's. After that the road noise drowns it out. Car speed or engine revs does not change the pitch of the noise, it is constant.

Anyone else had this? Or have an idea what it might be if not the fuel pump?

Get your intank pump checked iv replaced 1 that was extreamly loud , too the point you could hear 60 feet away from the car at idle , the noise seems to vary slightly in each vehical with some louder than others & some you cant hear at all but for piece of mind go get it looked at , none of the ones iv seen or heard had any peformance issues or supply problems from the tank to the high pressure pump apart from being noisy

Yep I've had my fuel pump replaced. It was making a high pitched noise. I though it was the power steering pump, because the noise changed when I moved the steering wheel even when stationary. Looks like a common problem, because the Jeep service manager at John Hughes was straight onto it. They replaced it (after waiting 2 weeks for a new one to be flown in) and noise all gone. Never had any performance issues, but thought it was a bit crap to be making that sort of noise after only 10000kms.
