Default Coolant leak

Hey guys hopefully just a quick one.
I have a slight coolant leak just behind the oil pan.
Any ideas as to where though. So I thought I would ask someone more experienced since I'm pretty new to the XJ scene.

Thanks in advance.

Default Coolant leak

Welcome

There is a welsh plug on the back of the cylinder head facing the firewall - but from experience it could well be coming from up front and blown back by your fan.

Is it just a weep? Or is your coolant level dropping noticeably over a period?

I only really noticed today when I pulled I home and had a look under to see a few drops continuously dropping so I would say its noticeable and I have had to top up regularly recently. I'll see if I can see the welch plug tomorrow to see if it's the issue. Is it a pain in the ass to change?

heck yerr it would be a PITA because AFAIK the head has to come off or engine out. I have heard of them going there to. I could have picked up a dirt cheap XJ 12 months ago, with a buggard WP at the back of the head.

Regards

A cheap & nasty fix ~ if you can get your finger onto the plug & clean it with the coolant level lowered, you may be able to seal it up with silicone. I have heard of JB Weld being used but good quality silicone works better. It has worked for me on other cars. Normally best to have the radiator cap not screwed right down as the pressure only makes it leak more.

I feel your pain bro, my rad leaks every now and then. ATM though I have other priorities so I just keep an eye on the coolant levels. Guess the good thing for me is the leak comes and goes. So it doesn't use all that much coolant.

Regards A
