Default Dash temp gauge not working

My dash temp gauge isn't working. It shoots all over the place. Just wondering what sensor this could be? If that is the problem?

Cheers

The temp gauge sensor in pre-updates is at the rear of the head, not the block, this applies to both OBD1 & OBD2, I am not sure what years of the updates use this same loaction before they went to the front sensor only which in the pre-updates is for the PCM to use to control mixtures etc as well as the aux fan....
