Default CRD Clutch options ?

What are the choices in a replacement clutch for 2007 build 2.8CRD 6 speed

Also options on the throw-out bearing
Have read various posts, positive & negative on going non OEM
Also read that newer production OEM bearings are much improved compared to previous models. Is this true or just sales talk ?
Plus is it always necessary / sensible to replace the expensive D.M. flywheel along with a new clutch ? (Probably know the answer to this already )

Just looking a year or so ahead on this one (hopefully)

I literally put in a NPC single mass kit with new flywheel about a week and a half ago, the old flywheel wouldn't have needed machining if I had replaced the clutch only, but this isn't always the case. You won't be able to tell if the flywheel need replacing until you get it apart. So better to have both handy if staying with a dual mass clutch, just in case. I'm stoked with how mine feels now... The shudder people talk about after converting is because they're not in the correct gear for conditions, a dual mass clutch will dampen some of these vibrations. I've had no issues with shuddering.

Personally I would not even consider putting that dual mass rubbish back in - they are just not reliable for off road vehicles (much nicer road manner though). For less money, around $1750, you can go with a SM system which will last many many years.

As for the bearing, look for something better that that Sach OEM one, mine is 15k km old now and squeeking... I've herd there is a better one on the after market.

Yes I've read that also... such as the National here...

However, I've seen post where a guy fitted one and it didn't last as long as his previous OEM before 'ticking' again..
My JK (like most) is mainly on the road as a daily driver so the road manner of the Duel Mass is possibly worth it to me
I can budget ahead for replacements such as this as its hopefully just every several years.
It would just be nice to find a longer lasting 'beefier' version of that bearing though.

Have look here, it's where I bought mine from. The driveline specialist that put it in for me said they used top quality bearings. And when the kit arrived even a layman like me could see it was awesomely made bit of kit, you could hang the alloy flywheel as a piece of art.

As for on road performance well so far it's awesome. The only problem I have heard off is driveline shudder if our not in the right gear. Haven't experienced it myself, and if you can drive an old manual car with no issues, you'll be fine. Dual mass clutches are for people who nanny their cars for optimum fuel economy, so they don't shake themselves silly. At least with a single mass clutch if you get a GDE Tune you won't have to worry about frying clutches.
There is a tiny bit more noise when in neutral, but with wind, tyres and a blaring stereo I don't notice it unless I get out with it running, and it's not enough of a noise to be annoying

I have exactly the same setup with the GDE tune and Standard (not H/D) NPC clutch. I didn't install it (came with it when I bought it), but it feels really strong on and off road. As for the shudders I have read about, I believe it's non-existent. The only time I have ever felt it is when I change up a gear and the revs aren't high enough. Another super happy customer with the NPC clutch anyway!

Just a thought... my DMF lasted 205k (6years of weekend off roading only)... it finally carked it on the freeway after it rattling along for 3k. I had it towed to a dealer, I asked them if they could find an aftermarket version as the stock parts were going to be $4000+.... they managed to get a complete kit (flywheel, clutch and bearing) for $1800.. whats more they replaced it virtually overnight as the kit was couriered to them the next morning and they fitted it by lunchtime. Can't fault that service I'm afraid, even though dealers get a bad rap most of the time..
