Default Winch rope install

Hi guys I was wondering what is the best way to put rope on my new winch? Is there a right way and a wrong way to wind it on? Also is there any tricks to getting it look neat?
Thanks in advance
Matt

I would say.. read the instruction.
Also, you need to at least tell what winch and what rope you're going to put on. lol

Pass the rope under and then around the back of the winch drum. Secure the rope to the winch drum. This way when you wind in on the winch it will wind the rope onto the drum.

You really should put tension on the rope as you initially wind it on the drum. That way when you use your winch in anger for the first time, its already got tension and won't slip on the drum.

The best way to do that is to wind a couple of turns with someone putting all their weight on the rope to get it started, then attach the hook to a tree with a tree protector (as you would if you are bogged for real) with the car on a slight slope. That way, the weight of the car will pre-tension the rope as it's wound on the first time. If you can't find a slope suitable, you can always apply a bit of handbrake (it has to be good for something because Jeep handbrakes don't do anything else).

Don't use it! Might ruin the 'neat' looking rope!

Putting the rope onto the drum starts around the 10 minute mark
