Cool Hellos...

Heyas...

Ive been researching some Wrangler stuff.. as I am looking at getting another 4x4... and thought no better way of getting information, then here :P~

I used to own an '89 HiLux, which had a 3.8Lt, V6 VS Commodore engine in it.. lifted etc.. looked pretty good and I used to take it 4x4'ing.. It ended up dying in the ass and i got rid of it...

I've been without a car (got a Triumph Daytona atm) for about 2 years, so I am looking at getting something...

I love the look of the Jeep Wrangler...and they are going for $33.5k'ish atm.. with both roof options and the renedage pack.. so im thinknig of looking into it..

the thing is... thats for the Sports Wrangler... I want to do trips like Fraser Island, go camping (drive on rough tracks, through some low rivers etc).. I do not want to do rock climbing again (well, at the moment lol).. Do you think the Sports Wrangler would suit? As i am not sure i can afford the extra $10k for the Rubicon... or do you think the Rubicon is a must !!!

I know the 2011 model has the new 'fancy' interior, but tbh, im not fussed about it.. i like the stock standard Wrangler interior... The only thing i could see me changing in the future would probably be a bit of a lift kit and some 33's.. as i do like the Wrangler more or less as is (the stock front bullbar looks pretty average)

I wouldnt mind also seeing if i can get some matte black rims and a front nudge bar thrown in lol..

anyways.. thanks for any advice!

my word of advice is get the rubicon if you can afford it! most of us get the sport because we cant afford the rubicon and just end up building the jeep how we want them, its pretty hard to leave the wrangler stock as there are so many parts for them and beleive me, you wont leave it stock haha

dont quote me on this as i have a tj but im pretty sure you can run 33's with no lift, so i recon get some tough looking 35's and jack it up a bit, you will liturally be able to go anywhere and you will show off any of your other mates 4x4's regardless

the jk is a awesome rig, if you get the sport or the rubi they will both hold up, just that the rubo would be better as it comes tricked out a bit with some tougher parts that will with stand abuse on the trail

a stock jk is pretty equivilant to a modyfied tj ( at some extent )and some might kick my arse for saying that haha but its true, the jk is a good starting base for a 4x4,

if you can afford the rubi get it, as it comes with a heap of gear stock that you will wanna upgrade later. Ie lockers disconnects. And run 35's for sure, i have heard that a 2 inch lift and after market flares will get them under with little to no scrubbing. So i have heard. Dont quote me lol. ps make it mean because most jk owners like the shoppin centres and latte's and taking kids to soccer. You dont want that label lol

Well, as it turns out... ive just had a bit of a major kick in the wallet over the last 3 weeks... so i wont be able to purchase a new jeep, let alone a Rubicon

Sadface for sure... Only have a $25k budget to work with now

Seen some interstate 2007 and 2008 for about $26.8k.. might have to try my bargaining skills lol...

For what you listed you want to do, a stock sport will do it well. Went for a run up to the Galsshouse mountains a few weeks back and the things a stock sport will go up were quite amazing. A small lift (at the start - you will end up bigger...) will easily fit 33's (some versions come stock with 255/75 17's ~ 32in).

So if you can pick up a 2007/2008 within your starting budget, go for it!

Heres a 2009 for $25k in brissy - take a cheap flight to brissy and drive it home the scenic route
