Default Buying A Used 2011-2013 Diesel Pre-purchase Advice

Hi All,

Firstly love the forum, thanks for the advice and help so far, love all the feedback I've got and enjoy reading about other peoples posts too

I'm still toying with the idea of purchasing a USED 2011-2013 Grand Diesel to use as an every day car and a tow vehicle. I am still concerned about reliability after reading some of these threads and word of mouth but apart from that I would buy one tomorrow!

When I test drive and look and then privately where are the areas to look out for oil leaks and any other things like that? On cars with Quadralift how can I check that all out the best to make sure its operating correctly? What else should I be looking out for or listening for which could indicate problems with the vehicle?

Thanks to SJetc Im aware of checking recalls on this site and will do so prior to a purchase;http://recalls.mopar.com/

Here are the 3 in the running at the moment, What are your thoughts? What would you guys suggest out of these;
  1. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...3535207/?Cr=26
  2. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...SSE-AD-4023416
  3. http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/de...AG-AD-12744524

Thanks again,

Chris

Yep, the WK2 seems to be pretty solid, no real pattern failures like the Prado D4D had.

There have been a 'few' issues that have appeared in the forums:
1. There have been a few 5 speed transmission failures when used for towing. Maybe buy one without a tow hitch so you know it hasn't been loaded up. Having said that there are also plenty of 5 speed owners who have towed big vans with no issue.

2. Aircon condenser failures, had a few reported in the forums, some have gone for aftermarket replacements and saved a bit.

3. Oil leak in the timing chain cover gasket leak:

And you can look through the TSBs:
http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_tsb.htm

Quadra-lift will normally throw an error if there is a problem, it should display on the dash, service air suspension message or something like that. Just check that it will go into all 4 height settings without error. The only issues I've heard of is air line leaks, which can be a bit tricky to find, but they don't appear to be common.

I'll follow this thread with interest as I'm in the same boat and looking at a WK2. Driven both the V6 CRD and V8 Hemi, not much between them to a 100 but the Hemi smokes it on the roll and no lag and as a driving pleasure deal, the Hemi wins by far. Most complaints ive heard have been with the diesels and sometimes unsolved issues that have followed the vehicle through several owners. I know it's blokes with a problem that squeal the most, and justifiably so but I've not heard of too many high mileage CRD happy reports either. To be fair though, I reckon all current CRD's from the other manufacturers have a few reliability questions hanging over them too. The Jeep CRD performance makes the others look like a joke though.

From Jeep Garage:

Mostly US with 2014+, they had a lot of DEF problems in the US, we don't have to worry about that.

My advise is to research the service history thoughly with Jeep to see if it has had any reoccurring problems. CONTACT the previous owner/s and servicing dealer and ask the question as well.

Thanks for the response guys.

Any recommendations as to which one should top the list and why?

Benn0 Ive had a look at those links, thanks for that. The list of TSB's is ridiculous which again doesn't fill me with confidence :-S
