Default Front drive shaft blown.

Hi Guys,

I just got back from Frazer island. Was having a great time and the jeep was performing admirably (we even got past ningala rocks (stocko KJ A/t Tyres) Anyhow, after we went thought ningala I noticed a clunking noise coming from the car, we stopped to check it a few times and we could see anything.

Then the clunking noise happened again and a big bang, then the engine revved like it had popped out of gear. We stopped and checked again, then started it up and changed back to 2wd then back to 4wd and we were able to head off again. Got to the tip of Frazer then put it in park and it made a bit of a gringing noise. Had a few beers and fished a bit then went to take off, and it just revved. The front drive shaft was resting on the exhaust pipe and the retainer had blown. anyhow we had to take off the drive shaft and came back in 2wd from the tip to the barge (only getting bogged at ningala a few times)

My question is: is it likely that I will need a new transfer case as well as the front drive shaft? I was worried about all the sand and crap that would got into there as well?

With the front drive shaft still off...

Select 4wd part-time and see if it moves forward etc, keep in mind you should be using "4wd part-time" for offroading.

Generally when a KJ blows apart the front prop shaft everything else, as in the transfer case, does survive.

Regards
Daz

Sounds like a blown CV on the front drive shaft. Easy fix. Its the same as a Ford CV.
