Default Diesel fuel problem

Hi,
Have a 2002 KJ diesel. Been in the shed for 18 months since it held my son up one night.
Apparently it just stopped while travelling as if it had run out of fuel several times on his way home(400k). After a short wait (5-30) minutes it would start again. This has happened
before a couple of times over a year or so but nowhere near as inconvenient.
A former employee had a similar problem and replaced the filter housing as there appears to be an o ring that causes the problem.
Someone suggested that a simple mod of installing a down line fuel pump in the line between the tank and the filter to alleviate fuel starvation would solve the problem.
Any suggestions?

My 2006 also has the air in fuel problem, but have no issues starting. I could prime the car every morning and get lots of air out.

Already have the new fuel head and didn't help at all.

I will be replacing the fuel hose quick connects with normal hose and clamps.
Will also install an external lift pump (Carter P4600HP shipped).

There are some very detailed instructions. Just do a search for "Liberty CRD Kennedy Lift Pump Installation".

Thanks for the info.
This is not a priority as it is a long way down the family fleet.
Got a couple of quiet days at work so will try the lift pump with a dash switch and relay so I can try it when I have a problem. Didn't even get to town(10 k) last week end with out it failing twice before calling my wife for a tow.

Sounds more like a sensor problem to me. The crank sensor or cam sensor would be my guess. Thise electronic sensors do not last forever. They get hot and go ' open circuit' and put the vehicle in limp mode or stop it. When they cool off they are ok again, till they get hot again. Imho its unlikely to need a lift pump, few in Australia ever have that need. If it starts and runs without stumbling or stalling then it is fueling ok. Its always a good idea to put in a new fuel filter and bkeed the fuel head properly but i doubt its the probkem in your case.
I would recommend downloading the Parts Fiche from the Sticky thread at the front of the KJ forum, and order a new crank sensor and cam sensor. Try changing the crank sensor first. Order them from George at VM Specialist UK, as the 2002 CRD was not sold in the US, euro build only.
