Default Turbo swap

Hey guys has anyone replaced they're turbo and hav any tips found the bearings are noisy and shaft has movement in the 97 I have bought and want to swap it with the solid one from my 98 .. is it best to try get to the Allen key bolts behind the turbo and detach it from the exhaust there or easier to undo the 3 nut flange in the exhaust and pull it through?

Will I be needing to get the starter motor out for this job?

You sound like you are having fun ! NOT
The bolts on the dump pipe flange you speak of are as nasty to undo as the manifold nut that gets mentioned from time to time. On mine they are torx heads. I broke 2 torx bits getting mine out when I replaced the turbo. I found easiest was to unbolt the manifold & those dump pipe bolts & then remove turbo with manifold.
Good luck!
