Default TJ is missing battery Clamps, how should it be attached?

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a 2005 tj. I didn't realise until recently the battery isn't secured.

I went and purchased a universal batter clamp from supercheap (https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/...le/214441.html) but I cant work out how it attached to the tray. Do the stock clamps have a specific way of attaching.

This is the same tray that mine has.

I was just wondering if someone can let me know how it should be attached and maybe post some pictures?

Thanks for your help.

Pics 11, 1 and 1. Two hooks and a bracket across the top.

The universal ones might be ok but I’d be emailing a couple of wreckers for the genuine part.

Thanks for the reply.

The battery tray in that diagram looks different to the one I have(see the picture in the original post). There are no holes at the back or front for the hooks to go through. That's why I'm a bit confused as to how it works?

Early TJs had the clamp over the top. I think later ones changed to a clamp at the base.

If you look at the pic, there is a bent plate at the rear which holds that side of the battery. The near side looks to have a hole in the center which should be threaded. A plate would bolt down there to secure the battery.

The same seller on ebay has the clamps which look to be a plastic block. I've made plates that do the same job though out of angle iron in the past. This pic I've just made in MS Paint should give you a rough idea.

as Jonny Jeep indicates

my '05 has a simple plastic clamp that clamps down the battery on the bottom lug thats on the battery

the only down side is that you need a 8" long socket extension to reach the bolt when changing the battery as I once found out in a car park changing a flat battery in front of an auto store
item 2 part number 55136959AC
