just a blank screen then goes black

ive been looking around and supposedly the hole in the dash is slightly smaller that your typical double din unit

so any one tried this and what was the outcome

Is it the same 8.4 inch screen thats in the wk2?

Theres a thread on here where a guy swapped in a 2018 head unit into a wk2, which would give you android auto/CarPlay.

Think that is an expensive option, about $1,200 i think.
You also need to buy the USB hub as well.
You can buy a non carplay 8.4 from a wrecker for $200-$400 from a similar year or buy an after market unit around $300.

I literally came here to post the same question.

I'm contemplating retrofitting an ipad into the dash, my brother did it in his Wrangler and it was awesome..

I'm listening. It's unclear to me how it all will plug in to control climate, audio, etc. And would you pay for a plan with your phone company to get it service, or would you go a wifi hotspot route?

Ah, I have a 2013, so climate is not controlled via the head unit.., (im sure you could use an OBD2 tool to integrate the climate into the ipad though, I've seen it done via torque i think)

Audio is connected via a belkin 3.5 audio + charge cable to the Amp.. so the ipad controls all the audio..

The ipad charges when in the car and can be removed at any time.

I have a plan for the ipad, so I'd just keep that in place..

Below are some images of my brothers install.. he color matched it to his body paint...

so ive bit the bullet and purchased a Pioneer DMH-Z5350BT head unit
and ordered all the patch leeds and steering wheel control unit from Aerpro

the leeds turn up this week but the steering wheel control unit is on back order to the end of the month.

ive had a dummy run at removing the trim plate and as long as the car has been sitting in the heat for a while shouldn't pose a problem. (queensland , that means parking outside for 15 minutes)

seems there an internal cradle i will have to remove and I'm hoping to make the factory back up camera work

guess ill find out

the factory HU is now going completely mad going white then black crackling in speakers and very occasionally the JEEP Uconnect logo comes up flickering.
